Broken Promises Rescue is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming neglected, unwanted, and orphaned animals throughout British Columbia. We focus on those most vulnerable, providing them with the care, compassion, and second chances they deserve. Through rescue, education, and advocacy, we work to reduce animal suffering and build a more humane and compassionate community.
Broken Promises Rescue is a volunteer-run, non-profit animal rescue organization based on southern Vancouver Island. We are a group of long-time rescuers who have come together to improve the lives of unwanted, neglected, and orphaned animals in our region and, when resources allow, in remote communities and other areas of British Columbia. As an all-species rescue—we bring over 30 years of combined experience to our work.
We often see animals overlooked in the shelter system because they are considered less adoptable. They may have medical or behavioral challenges, or they may simply be the “wrong” color, age, or breed. We focus on helping these at-risk animals, working closely with BC shelters and facilities that are overwhelmed, have low adoption rates, or lack access to veterinary care and training.
In addition to rescue work, we are committed to public education and raising awareness to help end the ongoing abuse, neglect, and suffering of animals. By educating both children and adults about responsible animal ownership, we aim to influence attitudes toward proper animal care and help build a more compassionate future.
We do this because hundreds of animals each year remain in BC shelters, overlooked or in urgent need of medical care. Our “before and after” stories reflect the reality of their condition when they arrive—and the remarkable transformations that occur with proper veterinary care, rehabilitation, and, most importantly, love.
